Episode #27 - A boat trip in Oman

The wonderful part of working at an American School in the Muslim world is the fact that we are often treated to both sets of vacations. So we get American Thanksgiving and also all of the Muslim Holidays. Throw in UAE national day and that gives you about 4 long weekends in a row. Pretty much the entire month of November and the beginning of December was all long weekends.  One one of the long weekends a boat trip was organized in the Mussandam region of Oman. Essentially, Oman has a portion of its country that sits atop of the peninsula at the top of the UAE.  It's easier to see a map....

The top chunk of the peninsula belongs to Oman which is filled with dry mountains but also long fjord like bays with blue water and stunning views.  We rented a double decker dhow boat to take us on  the journey but when we arrived we were upgraded to a triple decker boat with private cabins. After arriving in Dibba on the other side of the peninsula from Dubai, we boarded a boat and motored out into the darkness, were fed a nice dinner on deck, and had a nice time enjoying the view of the mountains under the moonlight.   Here are some pics from the trip.
Waking up in a calm beautiful bay- amazing views first thing in the morning

A few kayaks were brought along for exploring the coast

A few people went fishing and came back with this monster. A king fish.

The snorkeling was great and a few people did some scuba diving. Lots of fish species and healthy coral
