We left DC on June 17th and headed west to Indian Lake where we dropped off some of our belongings. Thanks to Mum and Dad for letting us store boxes and bikes under the house.... we promise we won't leave them there forever! We spent a nice final weekend at the lake with Pete, Somer, and Winston.
Cruising through West Virginia we had to stop for a visit in the neighborhood of our good friend Courtney in Beckley, WV.
We made it to Great Smoky National Park where we camped in a beautiful spot amongst the trees. At night thousands of fireflies came out and lit the entire forest.
Although the tourist town of Gaitlinburg Tennessee is a complete tourist trap, a short drive up into the park, and a 3 mile hike up the mountain brought us to Rainbow Falls. Heaps of unprepared tourists were hiking in crocs and sandals sweating like crazy asking "how much further until the falls". Upon return, one lady in the parking lot asked me if there was rainbows coming out of the waterfall.... uhhh... yeah.. and unicorns are swimming at the bottom.
Unfortunately, not long after that nice hike.. we had a bit of a mishap. We hit a huge thunderstorm with torrential rain. The car hydroplaned and we crashed into the center barrier... then we were hit by a tractor trailer, spun round and slid off into the grass. Road trip = over.
Jenn and I were extremely lucky to walk away unharmed from the accident. It was by far one of the scariest events of our lives and we are happy that we were both safe. The car was put on a flat bed and we unloaded our worldly belongings into a hotel room in Cookesville, TN. Taking a few days to organize ourselves we mailed items to Seattle and bought plane tickets. This one was chalked up to...shrug your shoulders and say shit happens.... life goes on.
Our awesome hotel guy hooked us up with a cheap shuttle to Nashville where we were happy to drown our sorrows away while doing lots of afternoon drinking and listening to country music.
A picture of Jenn and the King. In Nashville, we cruised around town, went to see Vanderbilt University, and at really good BBQ...(Yes, even Jenn tasted some of my tasty pork sandwich).
The next morning... we hopped on a flight to Seattle.
